It’s cold, time to MOVE!

September 30th, 2009 by Goliath

Getting kinda chilly here in Maryland. Think it’s time to move south. Mom and Dad have been real busy getting the boat all fixed up so I think it’s getting close to moving time.

Dad built mom a neat little place to hide all her shoes (if she’d put them away)! The up side was that it gave me just the step I needed to get to the little seat and then to the bed. Now when they leave me I lounge on their pillows all day. It’s pretty comfy up there.

We’ve been staying at a marina way out in the middle of nowhere. It is quiet and sometimes creepy. There’s been a rumor going around that there are dog vampires in these parts. I’m not sure but I want no part of it. They scare me almost as much as those big ladies in Bimini!

Hello, Remember Me?

September 30th, 2009 by Goliath

Dad finally let me have the computer. Man, he gets to write all sorts of stuff but me, never!

Last time I posted we were in Marathon and I was hanging with my dog friends at City Marina. Since then, boy have we covered some territory. I got to go to the Bahamas! The trip there was too bumpy for me but it wasn’t too long and after awhile we were back on land. Dad went ashore to sign us in with Immigration but they said I had to be “declared” like baggage. He told them I was “family” but they had no sense and so he went to customs and got me a permit.

The ladies here scare me! They look all nice and everything and when I start wagging they growled at me! Imagine that! I bark at em all now.

Lots of my people friends were in Bimini and we stayed a couple of weeks. When we left it was real calm. I like that.

I got to see some pretty cool places and meet a whole bunch of new friends. I get to run on all the beaches, except the ones with the big iguanas, they SCARE me!

In Georgetown mom and dad dressed me up in some silly clothes (did I ever mention I HATE that) paraded me around with a bunch of other dogs. I won some sort of flag for my humiliation. Someone call the ASPCA!

I liked the Bahamas. It was warm and I got to run all over the place. I like that in a place.

All good things come to an end and we had to come back. We’ve stayed the summer on land which does have its perks. I got to see my Aunt Sher and all the kids, big and small. I’m tired of riding around in a car but soon I think we’re going to start back on the water. Can’t wait, although I don’t want any big waves.

My Day at the Wazoo Cup (01/03/09)

January 3rd, 2009 by Goliath

Today was a great day! After days on the boat the humans took me to shore for a full day of fun and what fun I had. I rode the bow for the race and got to meet some new friends.

This cute little female named Lucy came by. She was HOT!

My little heart was racing but these other two varmints started cramping my moves.

Lucy thought we were all morons so she says “you mutts are dumb, but if you can make a sentence with the word liver and cheese in it you may get my attention”. Well the retriever pipes up with the truly moronic line of “I love liver and I love cheese!”. He seemed real proud of himself until she told him that his sentence was stupid. The terrier feeling confident tries the opposite tack and says “I hate liver and I hate cheese!”. No go. She thinks that’s worse than the first guy. I’m figuring I have got this made so I tell those other bozos, “hey, liver alone, cheese mine!” We had drinks later at Dockside.

Dude, am I cool or what!

I KNOW this place!!!

December 23rd, 2008 by Goliath

It sure has been a long ride since the last time I wrote. I was getting pretty weary of this travel stuff. For almost two months me and my people have been puttering along in unusually cold miserable weather. No fun for people and especially no fun for dogs! The things I have to put up with. I have discovered a new place to hang out. Dad put a pillow under the dodger for me. It’s nice and warm under the sun. When the sun moves I stare at dad until he moves the pillow to the other side. Humans are so easy to train.

Well, yesterday was very pretty. Very warm, sunny and the water was calm. I was perched in “my spot”. We rounded the corner of an island and headed for an inlet that seemed familiar somehow. As the boat approached the marinas I knew where I was. I scampered up to the bow barking hellos to all along the shore. People waved and shouted hellos back. I know this place! I’m back in my winter home. We stopped and I helped mom pick up the mooring. Dad quickly launched my boat, put on the motor and soon we were ashore at City Marina. I strutted around like I owned the place saying hi to those I liked and barking at those that looked like pirates.

Today Andy came by the boat to pump us out and he remembered me! I certainly remember him cuz he’s the guy who gives me treats.

Ahhhhhhh, life is good!

My Day at the Fair

October 20th, 2008 by Goliath

They never take me anywhere. Usually I spend most of my time guarding the boat but my people thought that since a lot of people took their dogs to the fair maybe I could go. I was pretty excited when they started to leave and said I could go too.

It was pretty cold and as usual mom dressed me up in a coat. Today I got to wear my Carhartt jacket. I looked pretty studly. For awhile I was pretty warm but it didn’t take long to get pretty cold.

Mom’s friends brought their little girl, Zsophia. She was nice. She walked me all over and picked me up when the big dogs came by. Those big dogs kinda scare me.

We saw this weird creature. She picked me up and took me over to see this thing. I am not too sure …

People are such slobs and boy am I glad. I got a lot of french fries and pieces of funnel cakes to eat. They were all over the place. I don’t care for oysters so I passed them by.

We went in to sit down and it was real cold. I got some cuddle time in and soon warmed up.

Ahhhh life is good. I had a lot of fun but was glad to get back to the boat and get under the covers.

Remember me?

September 2nd, 2008 by Goliath

Yes. thats me. Mom insists on these dumb hats and shirts. How humiliating!

Last time we talked, I was getting ready to head north from the Solomons. The trip up was pretty uneventful for me as we travelled pretty much all the way to Atlantic Highlands in New Jersey. I don’t think I touched ground until we got to Cape May and then again not till New York.

The trip up the Jersey coast was kind of hard for me. Lots of waves (I don’t like waves), fog and then thunderstorms (they bring big waves). After we rounded Sandy Hook and got hit by a big storm I decided that maybe it was best to wait this one out down below.

I love New York! Most places let me come in and I do get to go for lots of long walks with other dogs all around. Dad let me use the camera to take some pictures of my favorite place, Riverside Park along the Hudson River.

I hope I get to go back there soon.

We went to the Oday rOnDAYvous up the Hudson River. I was hoping to get to see lots of people but apparently the “older” crowd at the “Yacht Club” didn’t want any dog poop in their lawn! Now I ask, “do I look like I’m that uncivilized?” Geez, I go on the boat. Regardless they didn’t want me ashore but dad sneaked me in for a few hugs. Ahhhhh….

My dream came true and we stopped back in New York and I got a few more adventures in and then it was back on the boat and on to Long Island Sound. We stopped a couple of places along the way and as we motored into Mystic we were met by my buddies on Symmetry, Tom and Lisa. It was so good to see them again. We stayed in Mystic for quite awhile and I got to go for some walks ashore but nothing like NY.

From Mystic we went to a bunch of different and neat places. The beach on Block Island was fun. I got to run with no leash. Jamestown was cool as was Cuttyhunk. I got more beach time at both places.

Yes, I’m smiling. This is the life!

These are from Hadely Harbor which was nice, too. From here we went to Martha’s Vineyard but I didn’t go ashore. :o (

We’re back in Mystic again and looking at the hurricane tracks to figure out when to start heading south. I think we should stay here!

PS: Dad just added some more pictures of me to my gallery.

Back on the Boat Again

June 18th, 2008 by Goliath

Things are getting tidied up around here and it looks like we’re getting ready to head out. The last month on land has been pretty sweet. Lots of long naps without that pesky water splashing all over. I got to see lots of my old friends. It was good to see Aunt Sher and she gave me lots of treats. We drove a long time and finally got to Oklahoma where my kids and friends live. I got to play a lot with Little Ick and ran all over the back yard with Maggie.

Laurin carried me around all the time. Jake just chased me.

I was sad to see us leave but we needed to keep going so we took another long car ride this time stopping in Memphis. I rested in the hotel while mom and dad went out to do their thing. When they go to all these places to eat they sure come back smelling good.

Next stop was my dad’s sister’s house in east Tennessee. I sure was intimidated when all these dogs came running and barking at me.

I thought Dru (the big black dog) was gonna eat me but we soon became best of friends.

I liked it there. There was lots of room to run and plenty of neat things to explore but we had to go again. We stopped to see Larry at their gallery in Asheville and went to lunch. The first place we stopped said I had to be outside the fence if the people were gonna eat there. Dad sat outside with me but they said he couldn’t eat outside the fence. He told them to put something somewhere and we left. The next place was much nicer. Not only could we all eat together but I got a big bowl of water. If I had thumbs they would be up for you guys.

We left there and went for a nice drive in the mountains. I got to get out and run at every stop and that was often.

The place we stopped wouldn’t let me sleep in the room (some stupid anti-dog law) so I had to stay in the car. Didn’t like that a bit! I pouted most of the day.

We got back to Cheryl’s in Solomons late at night and I’ve been resting up since. We left the dock today and are currently anchored near Cheryl’s in Mill Creek. We might leave tomorrow or the next day.

Little Ick gets his!!!

June 3rd, 2008 by Goliath

We’re visiting Oklahoma and I’m having so much fun. Little Ick is my cat. He was around when I was just a pup and he always kicked my butt! Well, now I’m a little bigger and I’m taking this opportunity to exact a little revenge.

It’s Been a Loooong Trip but We’re at Mile 0!

April 28th, 2008 by Goliath

Once mom left to go help Aunt Sher, it hasn’t been all that much fun. It seems we are going someplace all the time. I get up, go potty on deck and then sleep till it’s dark and time to go to sleep some more.

I did get to stop in Vero Beach and run in the dog park a bit. That’s one of my favorite places.  We went through a big stinky cloud of smoke one day. Not cool! It seemed like forever before we got to land again, but not before we went offshore. Those are tough. We went so long that I didn’t even get to go down below and sleep. I had to sit up all night and keep dad from falling asleep.  This is us the next morning.

I don’t usually go below when we’re traveling but when we got to the inlet that day it was blowing so hard I thought I was gonna fall out of the cockpit.  Dad was working real hard to keep the boat going straight and we were heeled over to where I could see water.  Too scary for me so I went below and hid till it was over.  I got to get out at a real friendly marina called the Boat Shed.  Will, the guy who ran it, let me run wherever I wanted.  He was pretty cool.  For the next couple of days we stopped at places where I could get off and stretch.  Barefoot Landing was ok but Southport had too many big birds.  For the next four or five days I never got a chance to get off the boat.  It’s gotten a little colder and wetter.  Here I’m keeping watch.

Well we eventually got to Portsmouth, VA which is just about the end of the ICW (mile 0).  We stayed at a free dock and I’ve been able to run and play a whole bunch.  I met lots of nice people.  These people are from Richmond …

and this is Marine, my new best friend.  She’s from Nova Scotia.  Her family is on the boat next to us.  She runs me all over.  I wore her out!

Their adventures can be found here.

About s/v Marylee

John bought a 23 foot O'day sailboat which he lovingly restored. We enjoyed sailing it so much that we bought a bigger boat, a 40 foot O'day. A couple of years ago we decided to plan for a retirement lifetime of cruising on the 40 foot sailboat. Now we are retired and we're underway on our lifetime journey on the 40 foot O'day. The 23 foot O'day is in good hands with the Fuller family.

Thank you all for your support. Please follow us along on our journey.
